Drawing and Meditative Mindfulness

About the Program

In this class, offered in partnership with Otis College of Art and Design, cultivate a meditative state of mind while developing the formal techniques of drawing. Current research in neuroscience has demonstrated that the practice of meditative mindfulness can sharpen perception, creativity, and intuition and increase attention and nonjudgmental awareness—all skills also honed through drawing.

Both beginner and advanced students will benefit from instruction in meditative mindfulness, hands-on drawing exercises, demonstrations, and critical analysis. Students’ understanding of composition, contour, gesture, value, mark-making, perspective, and color relationships will be enhanced through the meditative mind.

Instructor: Lisa Oxley has an MFA in fine art from Otis College of Art and Design. She is an exhibiting artist and trained instructor of mindfulness awareness meditation. She has studied meditation in both the Soto Zen and Tibetan Vajrayana tradition and is a student of Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche.
